Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 30, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information CommonContent ("we", reachable at commoncontent.org) collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. We try to keep things simple and minimal.
1. Information we collect
- Submissions to the catalog. When you submit an entry, we collect the metadata you provide (title, description, URL, license, keywords) and the e-mail address you give for moderation contact.
- Account information. If you register, we store your display name, e-mail, and a hashed password.
- Server logs. Like most websites, our servers may log IP addresses, browser type, referrer, and request paths for security and traffic analysis.
- Cookies. We use functional cookies to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising cookies. We may use a privacy-friendly analytics service that does not set third-party tracking cookies.
2. How we use information
- To display catalog metadata to the public — that is the entire point of the catalog.
- To moderate submissions, prevent spam, and contact you about your account or submissions.
- To improve the site's reliability, security, and usability.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not share it with third parties for marketing.
3. Public vs. private fields
Catalog metadata you submit is public — that's how readers find the work. Your e-mail address is private; it's used for contact only and is not displayed on the site.
4. Children's privacy
The site is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.
5. Data retention
Catalog entries are kept indefinitely so the public record of the work remains available. Account and moderation records are kept for as long as the account exists or as required by law.
6. Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction (including the EU/UK and California), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, and to object to certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us using the channels in the About page. If your account is removed, the catalog entries you submitted may remain — but the contributor name attached to them can be anonymised on request.
7. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect data. No method of transmission over the Internet is perfectly secure; we do our best.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy occasionally. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the latest revision.
9. Contact
Questions about your data or this policy can be sent through the channels on the About page.
