How do I correctly attribute a Creative Commons work?

A solid attribution carries the four "TASL" elements:

  • Title of the work (and a link to it, if online).
  • Author's name (with a link to their profile or site, if available).
  • Source — where you got it (link to the page).
  • License — name of the license (e.g. CC BY 4.0), with a link to its deed at the source where you found the work.

For example: "Sunset over Jakarta" by Avianto, on Flickr, licensed under CC BY-NC 4.0.

If the author has specified a particular attribution string, use that.
